Work experience

 

2013-2014 Post-Doctoral Researcher, University of Cyprus

 

Areas of focus: Visual Communication (Graphicacy); Design Innovation; Creativity. Developing, testing and implementing primarily formative assessment tools to enhance teaching and learning of specific competencies in education. The two competencies related directly with the Design and Technology subject area are Innovation and Design in Technology/Engineering competencies.

 

 

2012-2013 Specialist Teaching Personnel, University of Cyprus

Subject: Preschool and Primary Education Teacher Preparation Programme, Design and Technology.

Duties: reviewed, analysed and further developed the scheme of work on Design and Technology, covering the main areas included in the subject area and pedagogy elements; acted as a supervisor for students during their school practice, performing mediator duties between the schools, the university and the students and acting as a mentor to the students; developed and ran lectures and workshops for 4th year students preparing for school practice, offered individual support for all students before their lesson, observed the lessons and provided detailed verbal and written feedback; offered guidance and support to a Master’s degree student who successfully completed his thesis. Conducted research, wrote academic articles and journal papers, organised national seminars

 
2011-2012

Wrote and ran a scheme of work covering the main areas included in Design and Technology and pedagogy elements. Supported, guided and mentored teacher trainees during their school practice on graphicacy and modelling in Design and Technology. Observed trainees teaching and assessing, evaluated and provided feedback. Conducted research by planning, preparing and completing related research projects. 

 

 

2010-2011 Visiting Lecturer, Teacher Education Department, Sheffield Hallam University.

Subject: PGCE Secondary Education Design and Technology teacher trainees.

Duties: Introduced the department and students to co-research. Prepared and ran lectures and workshops to support PGCE and M-level Design and Technology students. Provided guidance, management and supervision. Produced worksheets, presentations and other material for online assistance.

 

 

2009-2010 Visiting Lecturer, Teacher Education Unit, Loughborough University

Subject: PGCE Secondary Education Design and Technology teacher trainees.

Duties: Introduced the concept of graphicacy and cognitive modelling, and how these relate to the subject area of Design and Technology. Designed and ran tasks and exercises to enhance understanding.

Duties: Ran workshops focused on practical engineering drawing skills for undergraduate level.
